Rena Potts (Summerlin)

Rena Potts Summerlin, age 67, passed away on February 17, 2025, with her loving husband, Joel, by her side.

 

Rena was born on October 18,1957 in Gaston County, North Carolina to the late Clyde J. Potts and the late Selma Morris.

 

Rena was a very passionate woman who spent her life doing the things she enjoyed most. She had a passion for music and dedicated 18 years of her life teaching music at St. James Elementary School. She also played the piano at First United Methodist Church and taught many students piano.

She also had a passion for staying active. Some of her favorite activities were swimming, biking and running. She proudly took part in many triathlons and won several medals for her age group. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening. On September 25, 2004, she married her best friend, Joel. For the past 20 years they have spent their time creating beautiful memories traveling to different countries, visiting her favorite place - the beach, and going camping. Rena was an amazing wife and mother and she will truly be missed by those who knew her.

 

A celebration of Life for Rena will be held on Saturday, March 1st, 2025 at 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church of Dallas at 301 W Main St, Dallas, NC 28034.

 

Survivors include her husband, Joel Summerlin; son, Trot Leary (Lizann) of Johnstown, CO; Step-daughters, Kendall summerlin of TN and Kristen summerlin of Georgia (Ryan); step-grandson, Hayden Summerlin; brother, Jimmy Potts (Milly); sisters, Myra Walsburger (Chris) and Jean Senn (Steve); and caregiver of 6 years, Tamaro Robbs.
